Tips for a relaxed wedding day

tips for a relaxed wedding day

As a wedding photographer based in essex for the past 4 years i have seen lots of different weddings... my clients opt for relaxed weddings so i thought i could help with a few tips to result in a stress free wedding day!

Only invite people you love

Only invite people you want to spend time with. Don't spend an hour with a receiving line either, just mingle when you want to. You don't want to be worrying about your neighbour's son on your wedding day.

Don’t do anything you don’t want to do

Cutting the cake? Speeches? Sit down dinner?  If you are already worrying about this at this stage of the planning process, don't bother! It will cause you unnecessary stress on your day.

Have an unplugged wedding

Ask your guests not to take photos during the ceremony. You’re paying for a professional photographer, so you’ll have all the photos you need. It also restricts natural candids - you don't want photos of guests mid ceremony with phones in front of their faces. Also, it has been known for guests to ruin the first kiss by standing in the middle of the aisle blocking (!) the photographers view.

Don’t worry about the finest details

Details and decorations look great, if you're looking for a relaxing wedding process then I would avoid looking into these too much and focus on the bigger details. You won't be worrying about the postbox on your wedding day, you'll be focusing on creating memories with your loved ones.

Find out if I can shoot during the ceremony

Please discuss this with the vicar/registrars before the wedding day. I have often been banished to the back of the church and have heard of some not being allowed to photograph at all.  Let them know: I don't walk around mid ceremony and have a silent shutter.

Consider a First Look

Meet each other for the first time minutes before the ceremony outdoors (in glorious natural day light). You won't regret it and you'll have some lovely moments documented to perfection without ceremony room restrictions and also in privacy.

Think of the light

It gets dark really early from September onwards, so consider this when booking your ceremony time (or change it if you can). If you are having a wedding Oct-March consider having an earlier ceremony time to have more time to capture formal shots and natural candids. A first look would be perfect in the winter months!

Swap canapés for your cake!

Cut the cake and serve it straight after the ceremony. This saves money on canapés and means the cake gets eaten and enjoyed,

Enjoy every second

The day will fly by in no time. Take moments to soak in everything. The music, the food, the people - take a few minutes away, just you and your partner.
