Golden Hour Timings
As an Essex and Destination Wedding Photographer knowing all about Golden Hour is crucial.
Golden hour is definitely my favourite time of day. My family & friends see me transform at this time into a crazy photographer who must get all the shots. I’ve been like this for a very long time, I remember looking at the Sun in La Palma aged 12 thinking “WOW”. Although I was amazed I was also frustrated; Frustrated that I couldn’t capture what I saw with my eyes in the same way with the point and shoot I had at that time. So I’m going to be planning lots of blogs featuring golden hour as I hope I can help other photographers and wedding clients to understand the light a little more.
Light is amazing but it is also very quickly changing.
Below I state rough timings for golden hour throughout the year, as you will see below it changes a lot and it's very important you consider this when planning your wedding day. A lot of clients have missed out by planning speeches at the same time as Golden Hour - by the time they go outside it's dark! I would use an online calculator and look at the specific timings on your wedding date. Please note depending on where you are this changes. Northumberland sometimes has a half hour difference to London timings.
As a reference, here is an idea of when Golden Hour will start from Londons sunlight calculator:
March- 5:45pm Such a big difference in timings this month
July- 9:30pm The daylight is getting shorter from here on.
October- 7:00-pm Such a big difference in timings this month
