Winter Weddings Tips

Less light = Less time.

In Winter the sun rises and sets very differently, look carefully on websites that show the timings of the sun for your wedding day and plan around it. In particular think carefully about your ceremony time, in my eyes the earlier the better as you will have more time to play with the light throughout the day, My 2017/2018 winter couples researched this carefully and we managed to capture group portraits and couple portraits before the sun was set.

Finland Winter Wedding

Wrap up warm.

I think it's pretty evident from our recent heat wave that the weather in the UK is fairly inconsistent. We managed to get snow into March this year so with that bearing in mind have some blankets, scarves or throws ready for yourself and bridal party. Especially if there will be some time spent outdoors.

I absolutely love Sam's scarf she wore over her shoulders whilst waiting for some family members to arrive.

The bridesmaids really appreciated having these to cover their shoulders whilst snow was falling in Southern Finland.

Slot in golden hour

Last December we were fortunate enough to have an incredible golden hour and I'm so glad that the timings fit in with the wedding day. We managed to spend twenty minutes away from the guests getting some time to talk (and portraits!). Even ten minutes is enough time!

If the weather is good, take advantage.

All of Sam & Doug's guests managed to follow the newlyweds to their reception venue via a 5 minute London Underground train, it was so much fun and they were lucky the rain had stopped by this time in the day. Sam decided to walk to venue at the last minute and I'm so glad they did!

Plan some evening activities.

I have absolutely loved weddings that provide activities throughout the evening as well as during the day. Josie & Danny decided to have fun in the snow, it was such a unique experience - I love every second of it. You can see more ideas on Carmen & Hari's Summer Wedding blog

Sparkler shots are also so much fun!

Thinking about the backdrop for the reception meal

Adding lighting and extra decor can really add to candids.
